Xrefs and Data Shortcuts

We keep having the same problem. Someone will attach an xref (as an overlay) and it will automatically bring in all of the data shortcuts from that reference file with it. Any idea how to stop that from happening or why it is happening?

thanks!

Specifics?
What version & service pack, if any?
"Bring in all data shortcuts": Are they now listed in the Prospector?

civil 3d 2008 service pack 2. They are not listed in the prospector, but they are significantly slowing down the drawings. If the data shortcuts window is opened, it can take up to 20 minutes to load the data shortcuts, even though they have not been "referenced" and are not in the prospector. They load in there, even though no data shortcut files were imported.

The Datashortcuts window is showing shortcuts which are available to import
as references in the drawing. If it's taking that long to open the panorama,
perhaps one, or more, of the shortcuts has a bad link. You may want to
Validate them, if possible. Or use the Data Shortcuts editor to correct any
pathing issues, any that have broken links. Those with broken links should
be showing in the Panorama with the yellow triangle & exclamation point
adjacent to the name.
