Workspaces

Why oh why... isn't the visibility property of the Map "Task Pane"
included in a saved workspace?

I turn this palette on, save the "Tool Based Geospatial" workspace,
switch to the Civil 3D workspace and then switch back to the "Tool
Based Geospatial" workspace, and the Task Pane is hidden again.... I
have to turn it on every time. Is there a logical reason behind this?
Anyone?

Cause we don't want you civil guy to play with out mapping toys. 🙂
It's the other way around with me in C3D I dock the map task pane first then
the toolspace and when I switch workspaces the toolspace is gone. I think it
only remembers one of them, the first one opened. ?

I also wonder why the command line is turned off in the default ToolBased
workspace. I can imagine the confusion that causes some users.

But yes, the Taskpane behavior is very annoying. Just one more aggravations
I get from using Workspaces. If I ever get time to spend on tweaking (which
we always seem to need to do these days) I'll configure a workspace that has
both Map and C3D tools available so I won't need to leave.

Very good point. Especially if DYNMODE=0. Now you have zero feedback
as to what command you are in, or if you are even in a command...?

Yes it is confusing........
Being a command line user and not looking at the command line while typing
in some commands I wondered how come that command did not work, only to see
the command line was OFF and using the text window to see I spelled it
wrong. The ctrl 9 keys became my friends quick.

One more discovery....

When you are in the default Civil 3D workspace, and you switch to one of the Map workspaces, the workspace selection dropdown (now in the QAT in 2011) vanishes. And apparently it's visibility status is not saved in the workspace. No matter how many times I make it visible, whenever I go back to one of these workspaces, this drop down is OFF.

The workspace selection dropdown should always be visible and not be controlled per workspace - just for this reason. I can't imagine how long a newbie would take to get back to the c3d workspace.... (No QAT, no command line, etc)

I liked the workspace selection dropdown in the status bar (2010)
