Windows 8

Anyone using that yet. We've gotten permission to upgrade a couple of XP machines and spec'd Windows 7. Our purchasing dept. wants to order Windows 8 (my jaw just about hit the floor) but now I've been asked if there will be any problems running Civil 3D 2012 on Windows 8. I know it's not tested on it. I'd think that everything should run fine. But if anyone has experience with it, I'd like to hear it.

Allen

BTW The computers that are being upgraded are both Dell Precision Workstations that would have come with Win 7 if our IT dept. didn't force XP on us at that time.

Alfred,

Look further down the page to System Requirements for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 For 32-Bit AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013.

XP is there.

Hi,

>> XP is there.

Yes, for 2013, but not for 2014 😉

Your right. Thanks Alfred.

That will make a difference to me too. Not my computer but I still have a couple of users on XP. Good news is we may be getting a couple of upgrades this year. Bad news is; Not soon this year.

I'm more interested in the drop of 32 bit support.  I'm excited that IT will be forced to upgrade me sooner or later.  But others in the office use some archaic survey software, not sure how they'll cope.

How they'll cope? Easy, don't upgrade to 2014.

It's about time support for XP was dropped, 32 bit as well. A drain on resources they were. You just know there will be some backlash, right or wrong.

Interesting why Win 7 is recommended. Makes me think Win 8 has some "known issues". Makes me not so confident about it.

Fair point, and one that I'm sure will be taken.  They're in the process of updating from 2008 to 2013 right now, so I'm sure it will be a little while before they have to worry about it.  We'll likely hang on for a while then go to 2015 or 2016.  What then?  I guess they'll cross that bridge when they come to it!

It was tongue in cheek, but yes, an unfortunate truth for many.

You mean that website? Yes.  Waiting for that to arrive here.  White rather than black, and a little origami thrown in.

Yes - I expect we'll see a lot more before the day is out - 30 minutes until all is revealed about 2014 product line

I have installed civil3d 2012 in window8. But it is not working properly. It is crashing every time as I am trying any civil3d command. I am unable to use the product.

Pretty sure that 2012 it is not supported on Win8 and while there may be workarounds to get it running it could be problematic and you will receive no help from Autodesk (apart from being told to upgrade to 2015...!!!!)
