From AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009, it's and oldie but a classic nonetheless.
Funny you should ask?
There is no dialog box - acad simply locks up if I try to use the calculator in the properties dialog box.

I don't recall what I was doing, but Civil 3D returned this error:
It gets funnier! I clicked "Yes", and then got this error:

@Joe,
I had that one too. It turned out that the calculator box had moved off the screen. Try the ALT+SAPCE then M then arrow trick to get it back.

my daily favorite is when autocad just dissapears from my screen with no warning or error box...
We used to call it the QED. Quick Exit to DOS. Program disappeared and left you at a DOS prompt. Now I supposed its a QEW(indows).
I do have a more recent one. I tried to install 2012 from a network deployment. I got an error during the install but hit continue. When I try to run I get an error that it fails a "Side by Side comparison". But it doesn't tell what it's comparing. The program wouldn't run and I couldn't Uninstall it. I removed it manually following the Clean Install procedure. But it fails.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had clicked 'No"...
C. Austin, I have been getting that same error for a few weeks now. It only occurs when I shut down Civil3d at the end of the day.
I have only gotten it twice ever and both times it was during startup as you can see by the background. No idea why.
Is this by chance when using autoturn?
We have gotten that after we place an autoturn into a drawing and found out if you explode it down to lines and arcs, you can save it again.
A good guess I forgot about that, but no. I was just hatching some polylines to get some areas. We decided not to upgrade AutoTurn when we went to 2011. BTW There is a very workable alternative that doesn't cost anything here: www.glamsen.se/CadTools.htm
