Hi again,
Just wish to thank the forum again on this 2nd Civil 3d project. My familiary with actual road construction is quite basic.
I'm at the stage where good Civil 3d practices need to be employed when generating volumes. Attach are two files showing
a road section with links and layers & also, the profile.
Please suggest how to proceed by answering these items.
1. Like to turn off the links first of all and show labels instead.
2. How does the total depth of the gravel road (0.3' for gravel, 0.5' for aggregate base) factor in the profile view? What shown is the EG(in green) and FG,the top of the gravel road.
3. The cross section view: Three surfaces were used, the top of the gravel, the bottom of the base and the Existing ground, Is this correct?
4. Is there two sets of Volumes? 1. Cut and Fill areas, 2. Pavement structure: Volume of the gravel and volume of the aggregate base.
5.Refer to 4. So the Cut and Fill areas need to be done first, then the pavement structure, correct. ?
1. Like to turn off the links first of all and show labelsinstead. Not sure of where you're trying to hide the links, but it sounds like you need to search the help files for information on "code sets." Most of the points, links and shapes in your corridor have codes attached to them which the software can use to control how to display those objects, or how to use them for surfaces, quantities etc.
2. How does the total depth of the gravel road (0.3' for gravel, 0.5' for aggregate base) factor in the profile view? What shown is the EG(in green) and FG,the top of the gravel road.
Normally the design layers below the top surface are not shown on a profile - at least in my experience. It just clutters up the profile without adding any useful data.
3. The cross section view: Three surfaces were used, the top of the gravel, the bottom of the base and the Existing ground, Is this correct?
If the gravel and base materials are nice simple areas in your template then they`re probably coded as shapes in your corridor. If that`s the case then you can extract the quantities as Structure type materials and you don`t need surfaces for them. For the subgrade material below the gravel and aggregate you will need a Datum surface for calculation of the Earthworks quantities.
4. Is there two sets of Volumes? 1. Cut and Fill areas, 2. Pavement structure: Volume of the gravel and volume of the aggregate base.
There are two types of materials as noted above. Structure materials are calculated from the regular shapes in your template - in this case your gravel and aggregate. Cut and Fill materials are calculated by comparing surfaces - EG to Datum.
5.Refer to 4. So the Cut and Fill areas need to be done first, then the pavement structure, correct. ?
It doesn`t matter which is calculated first.
hi,
1. You want to turn off that magenta color circles and add labels to links?
For this first select any section view>>> sample more sources>>add>>”your corridor”>>>edit code set style>>>
For turn of circles >>go to points in edit code set style and set style of all points as “none”
To add labels to link>> go to respective links>>> and change label style to the desired.
(zip 1)
2. From your txt it sounds like, you want to add\show "layers profile" (0.3' for gravel, 0.5' for aggregate base) into Profile view.
For that you have to first create surfaces of respective layers and then add them in Profile view (Profile >>> Create profile from Surface) with any desired style. (it may be EG, FG,other)
(zip 3)
