User Contours

I am trying to create a user contour but have not been able to locate in the help files, how to do it. There must be a way as C3D lets you label them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gene,

In Civil 3D you do not create contours!!!

Instead you create a DTM and set its display properties to display contours.

The specifics are described in the help files - but ultimately it comes down
to turning on the layers displaying the contours.

Laurie,

I guess I was specific enough in what I am trying to do. I have my surface created and my contour interval set. I need to show an odd contour in addition to those that I have set.

OK odd or even? What is an ODD contour (one only)? Get specific and then
someone can answer your question. Maybe.

I have my contours at 2' intervals for my minor contours and 10' for my major contours. I need to show a contour at 2002.50 for a water level in a pond. If I change my contour interval to 1/2' the drawing will become unreadable at the scale it needs to be plotted at.

I am sure there is a easier way...but I am drawing a blank right now.....

This will work though......

create a copy of your surface and call it 2002.50
then in your contour setting select your contour interval to 0.5 and set your contour elevation range to only be tween 2002.4 and 2002.6.....it should only contour the 2002.5 elevation

Thanks for the help. I'll give that a try.

Check out the analysis tab of the surface properties, and add a user-defined
contour at your desired elevation.

Also make sure that user contours are turned @ the display tab for the
surface style you are using.

Gene,

1. In your surface style, turn on the component for user defined coutours
2. In your "Surface Properties" dialog box, go to the analysis tab and
select user defined coutours from the drop down list
3. Set the number of ranges to 1, and press the little down arrow button.
4. In the table at the bottom of the dialog box, enter you desired contour
elevation.

That is all there is to it.

Cheers,

Peter and Drew

Thanks for the help. That was exactly what I was trying to find.

Right click the surface and select surface properties, select the "Analysis"
Tab. User Defined Contours is one of the items from the drop down menu for
"Analysis Type"

Look up "Analyzing Surfaces" in the Help menu to get the details

Make sure your surface style is set to display the User Defined Contours.

I had terrible time finding this the first time I needed them.
