I am having a similar problem to this poster, except I am using Civil 3d 2007, sp1a.

It's a difficult problem to replicate. One thing I have noticed is once this starts happening, it usually ends up in a crash.

it happens to me sometimes- can't put my finger on why. happens less with SP3.
