Unpacked files in C:\Autodesk

I've just installed IDSP 2015 via download and unpacked the files to C:\Autodesk. I only have a modest size SSD and these files files take up a lot of space (34Gb) so can I just move this folder to my secondary drive as I assume it just contains the files necessary for installation rather than actually running the programs?

If you need to repair the install. You will have to re-path the installation directory. I haven't done this in a few versions but It was usually just a matter of browsing to the correct directory.

Allen:

Are you sure of this?  He is not talking about his installation location, just the unpacking files prior to installation. (I think.)

Yes - after unpacking you get the option to save to a folder (should have done E:\Autodesk).

When the installer is run from C:\Autodesk you get the option of where to install i.e. C:\ Program Files\etc etc.

My guess is that it shouldn't matter where the files are located?

Wherever you unpack the files, if that's where you install it from then that's where all the repair functions will look to. If you unpack without installing then moving the files shouldn't cause an issue.

Bill,

AFAIK the software is installed from the unpacked files. If a repair or reinstall is needed those files need to be access. Note: this doe NOT apply to a Network Deployment. Only to single installation on a computer. As I said. I haven't have to do this in a number of years. But that's how I understand it. It's like copying the install from a DVD or flash drive onto your hard drive.

Allen is right. And with the Suites this is real difficult to repath everything. I helped another user with this, in the end it was easier to use the uninstall tool, move the installer folder, and reinstall.from the new location. A real PITA...

OK, I stand corrected.  I really thought I remembered in the past I just deleted the whole download directory and no problem with the repair.  For now, I will just go hide in my closet.

Bill, I think that a simple repair can be done without the install files, it is a reinstall (perhaps uninstall as well?) that takes issue when it can't find the install folder(s).

So presumably I'm best off uninstalling and choosing a different folder path on unpacking?

Bill,

The directory can be deleted and the software will run with no problem. If a repair is needed the files can be unpacked again. I've never tried to unpack to the same folder and run a repair. But that might very well work. I'm just not willing to test that right now.

Would not it be simpler if you just moved your extracted directory to another drive, then if needed move it back to square one?

This is what I've done and hope that I'll always have enough room on C to move it all back if needed
