USING A SURFACE AS AN X-REF

Can you bring in a surface as an xref and still access it like it is actually in the dwg.

cut sections, profiles, volumes, etc?

Yes, Its called Data Shortcuts. There is a tutorial in your help menu or here is a link

I really like them because if your original surface changes then it will update the surface in the other drawing as well. you can do pretty much everything with them that you could do if the surface was in the drawing except edit it.

Jenny has the right technique, but you asked for XREF's and the answer to that question is no, you can't use XREF's in that manner.  You can label the surface through an XREF, but no profiles, volumes etc.

Thanks, it worked like a champ, and the dwg is much smaller

I have used data shortcuts years ago, but nothing like this
