Brad,
Realize that if you are subscription (still required for C3D I think), you
can install both programs and use the one you need. I have LDT 06, C3D 06,
and C3D 07 all installed on my machine. I am not going to bother with LDT
07. If I need AutoCAD 07 functionality without C3D, then I use the Map
icon. I still have C3D 06 because I have found I can not use 06 files that
use shortcuts in 07, still need to access those files occasionally.
I could say install it! Learn it! Even if you decide not to do any
projects on it yet! You will need to one of these days.

Thank you for the offer. I have seen numerous demos and webcasts of Civil
3D. I have even attended an AOTC C3D Essentials 3 day class. At that
point, January 2005, I realized that C3D was not ready for production, and
the training book forgot to include profiles! My instructor covered the
topic anyway. C3D 2007 for the last few months has been apparently buggy,
at least until SP2 according to what I was reading in this discussion group.
I don't have an immediate need for it, but I do have the time for education
and home work. Most of my AutoCAD work lately has been more with 3D solids
than civil work. AutoCAD 2007 promises to be better for 3D solids, but I
don't want to go that direction until I am sure that the bugs in 2007 are
fixed. LDT 2006 has been bulletproof for me.
How can I tell if I am "gonna love it?" For me, I love the concept of C3D,
but I don't want to switch if it is going to crash all the time or it can't
do everything that LDT can do.

the time is now to switch if you are gonna love it.
otherwise, hang back.
Civil 3D: You Gotta Love It
Civil 3D: Not Just for Gearheads Anymore- but make sure you have one to help
Civil 3D: Who needs Sleep or Recreation?
I could never ever ever go back. I am doing a Land Desktop 2006 class on
thursday and I am considering sending a stunt double cause I hate it. I
have to blow the dust off the install CDs.
If you would like to see some things I personally have done in Civil 3D
(there are about 5 more projects I need to capture and post this weekend)
