Things I have not had to do in a CAD app since launching C3D

I am trying to document workflow changes. I'll start the list with some of my first thoughts. Please continue the list. I am trying to document workflow changes and I am intrested to know what you don't miss doing. Have fun. 🙂

1. Computed a pipe slope with a calculator

2. Type a pipe slope, diameter or material in a txt string and align/rotate it to the pipe

3. Have had a site plan to digitize with redline contours to begin a grading job

4. Hand draw a profile or cross section

5. Type an alignment station into a text string

6. Hand draw sewer systems in profile or section

7. Manually compute an Avg End Area calc. Even in a spreadsheet.

8. Interpolate an elevation between contours.

9. Manually compute pavement elevations and place them in a text string for a plan.

10. Have had a use for a file containing polyline contours.

....

and as an alternative, things you still have to do by hand because Civil still can't do it...

I'll start with the just about useless mass haul diagrams...

One of my favs is editing the surface and NOT having to reimport 3D lines!!  You can actually see what you edited!!

Type in the top of curb, or any value determined from another value

Good post John. It should blossom

Well for the things that I've not had to do because C3D does it, I'd have to lump several things together and say start over (cut new profile, new corridor)because the alignment shifted.  I love having things dynamic!

As to things that C3D can't do, I'll list 2:

1) Custom Subassemblies without requiring that they be "installed" on individual computers.  It's absolutely rediculous that for someone to read my file, I have to send them the PKT file and they have to import it into their pallatte.

2) Transition between two assemblies in a corridor.  Imagine that you have an assembly that shows curb from station 0+00 to station 1+00 and then no curb from then on.  There needs to be a transition during which the Top of Curb and Bottom of Curb feature lines both eventuall meet at what is now the EOP.  This makes for a much cleaner surface.  I'm a former MicroStation/InRoads user and this was actually pretty easy with their transition editor.
