Hey - I'm a newbie to the forum, but I've got a problem with Civil 3d 2011. We're just getting familiar with it in our office, so we can start using it on a daily basis. (migrating from Eagle Point) My problem is with the Survey Database. Any time I try to create a new database, nothing happens, and the Survey Tab freezes entirely. It works fine in Civil3d 2010. I have uninstalled & reinstalled - no better. I updated Civil3d with the latest update this morning, no better. I'm running a virgin install - i have not reconfigured anything. I'm using default store locations, install locations, etc...
We have Civil3d 2011 installed on a different duplicate machine (same specs), and it works flawlessly on that machine. I did try once directing both machines to look at a network store location for the survey databases. I created a survey database on the "good" machine, and tried working with it on my "bad" machine. I could see the survey database, but i could not do anything with it. I received some sort of "access restriction" error.
Anyone have any ideas? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

Do you have your Working Folder Set? One thing to note that there is a difference in format and functionality between Civil 3D 2010 and 2011. Civil 3D 2011 will allow you to open Survey Database for Edit and for Read Only. If one user has the Survey Database open for Edit you will not be able to edit it any more. See if you can close Survey Database on "good" machine and then if "bad" machine will be able to open it. More about these changes you can see here:
See if you can just right-click and create new Survey Database.
I wound up contacting autodesk support, and they had me try these 3 things:
You might have to run the Repair option in the Control Panel under Add/Remove programs.
If the Repair option doesn't work, it is possible that you may be able to resolve the issue by running the Secondary Installer per the instructions on the following Technical Support web site to reset your User Interface back to its default settings:
Initiating Secondary Installer for Civil 3D 2011
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14929107
If the Secondary Installer does not resolve the issue, follow the Clean Installation instructions on the following Technical Support web site to reset your User Interface back to its default settings:
Clean Installation of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14929539
The clean install is what finally did the trick. Thank you Autodesk support!
