Surfaces

I have an existing ground surface created and I need to create a proposed 3:1 slope coming off of each side of a proposed road that I have drawn in the existing ground surface.. I need to be able to plot out the toe of the slope so that we can get a surface area. Sorry I am new to Civil 3-D... Can anyone tell me how to do this??

When you say "a proposed road that I have drawn in the existing ground
surface", what exactly do you mean?

You *should* be doing roadways with a corridor, which makes it very
quick/easy to see the limit of grading required for a road. The basic steps
are:

1 Create an alignment (keep alignments in their own site....LOOOONG
explanation)
2 Create a surface profile of the existing (including adding the profile
view to the drawing)
3 Create a layout profile for your design CL grade within the profile
view drawn in step 2
4 Create an assembly
5 Add subassemblies with appropriate properties, as required
6 Create a corridor from the above pieces...be sure to specify the target
surface for the daylight subassembly you added in step 5

Your post made it very difficult to tell where you are with Civil3D, so bear
with this post. There are quite a few issues involved here that I
completely ignored. The above steps are 'bare bones', to get what you
requested.

I have created an existing ground surface and then I just have the road outlined on top of it...

So I have created an alignment and an existing ground profile, now when you say to create a layout profile for the design CL grade, how do I do that??

I am very new to the program, I have only had one class on the program and that was a fundamentals class the rest I have self taught myself...

Thanks

Dana answered the question, but I've got a comment.....

If you had a class and profiles weren't at least talked about, then go
to whoever gave that class and demand your money back. That's part of
ANY fundamentals class, or it should be.

So now I have an assembly created with 15' basic lanes on each side to represent the road. In order to get the 3:1 slope on each side, what subassembly would I use?

I prefere the DaylightMaxWidth.........just ignore everything except the
slope values and the max width.

........and don't forget to set the target surface in the corridor
properties, parameters tab.
