Surfaces/Profiles

I normally create a tin in my existing survey using the points and/or contours. Then to create a profile, I save the existing survey drawing as my profile drawing so I can use the tin for my existing surface. I have a template for my profile settings and want to use this with starting up a new drawing and not using the existing survey drawing, saving as profile. Point is, is there a way to create the surface in the existing survey drawing, and import that somehow into my new profile drawing so I can use the surface?
1) Create new drawing using the profile template I created.
2) Import the tin (existing surface) I create in my survey drawing.
3) Create my profile alignment using this surface.

Is this possible without having to use the option of exporting a point file, import it in my profile drawing and creating the surface in the profile drawing. This way just takes too long and saving my existing survey drawing as my profile base drawing just seems redundant to me, plus, I can't use my template I created for the profile settings. This has just been a major pain for me. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE??????

Define surface then:
Export a LandXML file, Import a LandXML into drawing of choice.

I knew there was something simple like this that could be done. Thank you.

with C3D, can you just wblock the surface from drawing to drawing?

Not sure if you can do that or if you would want to with the data that is tied to the surface. It is just as quick to export it to landxml and import it into the profile drawing. Let us know if your idea works though with wblock.

My opinion only, if James says it. Believe it.

I don't see where he said anything, rather more so, he asked a question but I will keep that it mind. To me, it seems that a simple export and import takes less steps than to wblock it but that is definitely another option if it works and not one I would throw out by no means. I have been using AutoCAD for the past 15 years now and just recently started using C3D 2007 so I am still learning it's endless possibilities.

Again, thank you all.

WBlocking would 'work', but I certainly wouldn't recommend it, for the
reason mentioned as well as the fact that you would have two surfaces to
update.

Use the LandXML export/import (requires manual update, but works well)

Use data shortcuts. I haven't used them much in '07, yet, but so far, so
good.

Why not just create a data shortcut to the surface in your survey drawing? This way, if your surface in the survey drawing changes, all references to it will as well.

How do you do a data shortcut to the surface? Not familiar with this.

hence the question mark on my statement, I have not tried wblocking them. the data shortcuts are the right way, no need
to dupe surfaces.
