Surface from Contour Lines

I was given a drawing by a client that was not created by an AutoCAD product, but i was able to open it in Civil 3D 2014. It contained contour lines comprised of numerous line segments with no elevation property. I was able to join these segments into polylines and was then able to add elevations. The contours are at 2' increments in elevation. I then created a surface and added these polylines as contours. That worked to a point. Contours were created at 12 times the increment of the original contour lines. In other words 12 major contours were created between each of the original major contour lines, and between each pair of them 4 minor contour lines were created. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Inches to foot when you brought them in?

Civil 3D works in feet or metres. It can be forced to work in inches, kind of. Your contour elevations were likely 2 and 4 and 6. Civil 3D knows this as 2, 4, and 6 feet. Not only are your elevations 12 times bigger, but your horizontal is too. Try measuring something. This is probably true

If this is all true, I'd say the best answer would be to erase your surface, scale all of the contours by 1/12 and make your surface again. You could just scale the surface now, but that's really not the best plan at this point.

Work in feet in Civil 3D, not inches.

My first thought.  However everything measures correctly in the original drawing.

In that case, it seems it's just the contour lines whose elevations are incorrect. You'll have to edit them to be feet.

Your second suggestion led me to the solution.  I went back to almost the original drawing which for some reason now showed all dimensions multiplied by a factor of 12.  I scaled everything by 1/12.  I then created the contours which now were correct in all 3 dimensions.  Thank you very much.
