Surface exists, but triangles don't show

I've just built a surface using contour lines. I've added all the relevant contour lines, made sure they have the proper elavations, created a boundary, and the surface exists, because when I move my cursor over a black area, I can see the Z-value/elevation. However, none of the triangles show, regardless of whether I'm in plan view or in isometric.

How do I make the triangles show?

I've built several surfaces prior to this and never had this problem.

Thanks,
P. George

You have to turn them on if they are off.

Edit your surface style, go to the display tab. Turn the "little lightbulb"
on.

Well, the display tab DID have them on "off", so I turned them on, for both 2D and 3D. I clicked Apply, then Ok, then used regenall, and rebuilt the surface, and I'm still not able to see anything.

The TIN linework may be on a layer that is frozen or turned off. Check that next.

Nope, already checked that. The layer (lightbulb, right?) is lit up, and the freeze/thaw options are fine also.

When I use zoom>extents, and select everything using the selection window, I get 59 objects. However, when I use Ctrl+A, it tells me there are 60 objects. This "extra" object is the TIN surface.... but I don't see it anywhere..

Change the layer color that the triangle lines are on.

I've done that too, still no go.

Save the drawing to another name and clean out any unnecessary info. Post
in customer-files, give notice here that you have done it. Someone will
respond. One has to assume that you have run Audit and recovery on this
file.

For some reason, I do not see what version & SP you are using.

Well, I got tired of trying to fix it on my own, so I told my supervisor about it. He looked at it on my system, and wasn't sure how to fix it. We went back to his system, and opened it up using Autodesk Building Systems, and went to "Display Manager" (I'm pretty sure that's what it was called), and he checked every box under "Surfaces", clicked Apply, and voila it showed up.

Thanks for all the help, I've no idea how this got fixed, I'm just glad that it did.

The surface object is on a layer of its own. If that layer is turned off, it acts as a master switch, and all surface elements such as triangles and contours, regardless of what layer they are on, will be turned off. This layer is set in the surface properties.

Also a regen is needed most times to make a surface reappear that was turned off, or for any new layer settings to take effect.

every once in a while, i get something similar that happens where i build a surface and it appears OK in plan, then i take it into 3D and nothing. all layers ok, zoomed ok, but still nothing. i have just been ignoring it and moving on- it tends to be in drawings that weren't created from a civil 3d template but from the acad.dwt or sin-upon-sin just some random dwg i opened and started messing around in. so even though i mess with the style on the fly, it is still hosed. might be the same kind of thing. or it might be one of the things the guys here mention.
