Surface disappears when viewed wit LT or Trueview

I created a DWG with Civil 3D.  When it is viewed with LT or TrueView the contours for the surface disappears.  I checked the detail switch on the VIEW tab but it did not seem to make any difference.

Is this a function of LT and TrueView?

Another option might be to make sure that the PROXYGRAPHICS variable is set to 1 before saving from Civil3D.
