Suggestions needed for template maintenance

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the Civil 3D template drawing up to date? As I work in projects I tend to make new styles, layers, layer filters, settings, etc. that I want to be in my template for future use. I know I can save my current project as a .dwt and use it as the template file for the next project, but is that really the proper work flow? Any suggestions or ideas would be apppreciated.

If you go to the "Manage" tab, towards the end you will see an import styles button.  Click that and browse to the file.  You can also open the file and your template and switch to master view in settings, then drag and drop the styles.  Both should work.

I'd recommend reading the Templates, Styles and Drawings section of the Civil 3D Best Practices Guide. This provides a good overview of template setup and the QNEW variable etc.

Create Templates and place them in a central location on a read only network if others need access.

Then update them with your new Styles & Layers as needed.

Creating and maintaining a clean dwt essential to efficient use of Civil 3D IMO.

If I create a useful new style/label/layer, I'll copy it to my template for use in the next drawing I create via QNEW.

I tend to keep everything in one template (backed up to Autodesk 360 - at last a use for the Cloud....!!!) but not sure how practical it would be to use different templates for different projects as inevitably the style/label you need is in the "other" template

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
