Subassembly / Earthwork issue

I am having an issue with creating grading quantities, and was wondering if anyone has run into the same issue:

My Lane subasembly is the Lane Outside Super Layer Varying Width (our base courses extend under finished grade), and my issue is computing the sliver of earthwork between FG and the top of the base. With my typical computing materials, you enter the EG as above, and the DATUM as below and it works great, but in this situation, the DATUM surface is below, but at the same time I want to compute some area where it is below....

Any help?
