Starting BIG C3D project. Question?

The company I formally worked for has been acquired by a much larger
corporation.

I have been using C3D since 2004 and our office has complete around 100
projects with it. So we are well versed.

Here lies the problem.

The largest projects we had prior to the acquisition were around 100-200 lot
subdivisions.

Now I am looking at a project that is around 3000-4000ac. 1500-2000 single
family lots, 3 golf courses, marina's. 10-15 year build out.

I am looking for any suggestions/tips on dealing with projects this size in
C3D.

Lastly our IT department has not yet installed VAULT.

Thanks.

Please keep us informed on your progress!! We're soon starting the move to
C3D here, and are VERY interested in how well it plays with larger projects!

You've pretty well hit the nail on the head. When are you going to talk
about Vault? Any other solution will eat you alive.

It's not really a question of size, but of the amount of data that you are working with and how much information you want to present in each drawing.

The biggest problem that I have had is that the project starts out with say, a large surface from Lidar data, but you aren't displaying any of it so the program is fairly speedy. As more alignments, profiles and other design information is added the program starts to bog down. At some point you decide to turn on the surface contours - with smoothing, and you get "Fatal Error. Out of memory" Now you have to split up the project into multiple drawings, using Vault or data references to bring only what you need back into the current sheet.
