Snapping 3D featurelines to 2D objects

I'm sure this has been addressed but I'm not finding any answers in my search that work.

Typically I'll have a 2D layout attached to my design model to use as a guide. If the 2D layout is updated I need to move featurelines and gradings to the new locations without changing their Z values. It seems OSNAPZ is supposed to serve this purpose but it's not working for me. I have OSNAPZ=1 and ELEV=0 but when I snap a featureline vertex to the 2D linework the vertex ends up at elevation zero. How do I make this work?

Use the .XY filter osnap, pick the endpoint, it will ask for the Z, move back to the grip and it will pick up the original z from there.

I am aware of point filters Jeff but they are a bit cumbersome to use. I thought the OSNAPZ variable was intended to handle this. Am I mistaken?

OSNAPZ only affects OSNAPS. Grip Editing is not the same, I wish it were, but it's never worked with any type of entity.

That's disappointing to hear.

Would you happen to have an all-in-one command that applies the .xy filter for the from and to picks, or is that not possible with grip edits?

I don't have one now, and I'm not sure if it is possible as I've never really looked into it.

.xy

Yes I just typed it and see how cumbersome it can be, and the RC option is an even bigger drag on production.

Thank you
