Rise To Run in Cross Section

how does anyone apply 1h:1v type labeling for cross
sections? surface labeling has the feature but not sure where it is located
under xsections.

ok i navigated to the location but how do i get
that label to appear as an option within section view labels? tried to drag the
steep grading style from link to section view label but it will not allow the
copy. maybe what i should ask is where can i find help on the differences
between label styles found under the general setting v. design specific labeling
(if that makes sens?).

Best method is to use the corridor approach, you do this using the corridor sub-assembly and codes with labels.

In the corridor "code list", change the sub-assembly link code label to desired label. (code for top links / etc) you may have to change the sub-assemblies code to a new one (use generic links) so that the others do not show this data. ie if you use top then all top links will display the gradient label.

Change the sampled "corridor section" codes to use the as above code list.

Otherwise you need to specify a section view label (rise over run) and digitise the points on each one or use gradient break labels to do the work but these may show undesired results.

mike your input is greatly and extremely appreciated but it would be way
overkill in this particular application and can accomplish quicker by simply
using mtext/multileader (done). i generated two typical sections from an
exist. & prop. surface and wanted to use this as a label feature. weird how
basics in drafting and engineering have gone out the window with technology
(imo)?

Sorry, I thought you had sections from a corridor.

Providing you have cross sections as section views, Mike's "otherwise"
applies. SectionView labels can have the slopes labeled as you desire, which
takes very little time to do. Also, the sampled section itself has a segment
labels that can have this label, but these will be placed on ALL
segments....no weeding can be done as can be with profiles, so you would
have to manually delete those that you don't want to see.

How do you label a surface with a slope like (4H:1V)? I can add a V (vertical for rise) to the end of the label but don't know how to add the H (horizontal for run). I also reviewed the label Expressions (http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/civil_users_guide0.pdf#page=1750) in the Civil 3D 2011 User's Guide but couldn't see a way to get the run value by itself. Below is a screen shot that is 50% complete, just need to add the H. Any solutions? Thanks Jeff Jensen

The expression is 1/{Surface Slope} then add the expression to the label along with H:1V

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for the simple solution. I completely overlooked this. Also your blog post is very helpful and I will link to it.

Thanks again to you and all who contribute to this discussion group,
