There are tutorials included with the software. See the help file for the
tutorials and instructions on how to locate the data files. You will want to
look at the Survey tutorials for points.

But only if they want to use the Survey Database, no? Otherwise there are
the original tutorials on points.

As John points out, there are tools to import points directly into a drawing
without using the Survey tools. Those tutorials are found in the POINTS
topic under the Civil 3D tutorials. The main difference being the points
imported via Survey are stored in a database which can be accessed from any
drawing whereas points imported direct into a C3D drawing are stored in a
single drawing and can not be shared across drawings.

I'm curious, how much have you seen about Civil 3D? The reason I ask is
that if you haven't really seen much, you may not get too much out of the
trial version. There is SO much to learn it may be difficult for you to
evaluate it in 30 days playing with the software once in a while.

You might consider getting a reseller to come to your office and give you a
demo. This demo will be free. If it's not, find another one. Tell them
what kind of work you do and provide a sample of your data so they can
tailor the demo for you.

After that you can give the trial a run, but it's still going to be a little
painful especially that you're moving from a non-Autodesk product. What I'm
getting at here is don't judge the success, or lack thereof, of the trial
simply by a 30 day experimentation. Ask a lot of questions in the demo and
after the demo, since you'll likely think of far more afterwards.

Good luck.

In addition to having a demo, you might ask some of us who have experience
with both products as we can often give you a better comparison of the
strengths and weaknesses between the 2 products better than a specialist
from either company. Gary Elswick and myself both have experience with Power
Civil and Civil 3D. I am not strong on Survey in either product but I know
Map pretty well along with much of the Civil side of C3D. I believe Gary
uses the survey tools more. It looks like his current user name is
garyelswick5627 in the Autodesk forums if you want to look him up.
