Having seen this post in the CKB I looked at the Straighten method in PEDIT http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Civil-3D-Community/What-is-the-quickest-way-to-remove-vertices...
The Straighten method seems to always default to the first vertex of the polylne, which is great if you want to start there but what if you wanted to delete the 10th to 15th vertex? Is this even possible using PEDIT Tools (it is very possible using the WEEDFEATURES method)

Yes it's possible but not very straightforward or user friendly by using
PEDIT>Edit Vertex>Next (to the point preceding point to be removed)>Straighten>Next (to the point following point to be removed)>Go.
This is for a 2D polyline.
Thanks for this - as I suspected you can't directly click on a vertex to make it the "first" using PEDIT, BREAK is probably easier to use in actual fact?

Correct, you have to start at beginning AFAIK..
But a better solution is when using Grips you can hover over Grip where you want to remove a point and choose
"Remove Vertex". This way you can go straight to any point you want deleted along the Polyline (including the beginning point).
Indeed you can - but if I want to remove many adjacent vertices this method is very tedious.
It seems a glaring omission in a Civils product to be unable to remove polyline vertices with the minimum of hassle

You can also use the "Delete PI" command on the Modify Tab>Edit Geometry Panel.
Weeding is going to be the best bet when dealing with many vertices.
When I want to remove vertices from polylines weather there 2 or 3D I use the Modify edit geometry tools, is this not what there for?

I never knew that comand could be used on regular 2D polys...

The other thing to be aware of when using PEDIT>Edit Vertex> is that it starts, not at the first vertex of the polyline, but the first visible vertex. Similarly when you go 'Next', it skips to the next visible vertex. This can be useful if you have a long polyline with lots of vertices. You can force the selection to jump close to where you want it by zooming in on the part you're interested in.
