Raster Image error

I am working on a stormwater project which I need aerial for the entire watershed. The City's GIS department sent us the shape files and the aerial TIF. I've brought in all the shape files fine, but the aerial does not overlay properly in the drawing. It shoots it way off into model space. I've checked with the GIS dept. and the coordinates are correct for both the shape files and the TIF. I used "data connect" to add the raster image. The aerial file size is really large. 475 MB. I'm not sure if this is the issue. (I've had a co-worker who had AutoCAD LT, and she tried to xref a "large" dwg file. And the exact same thing happened to her where it looked like the xref was on a different coordinate system. However, on my computer with Civil 3d, I could attach the same xref just fine.)

Looking at my "Raster Extension Options" It looks like the default memory limit for me is 102 MB. So could this be the problem? Should I up the memory limit? Also, does anyone have suggestions to improve the efficiency? It takes me over 5 minutes just to load the drawing with this aerial.

When you bring in the raster with data connect make sure the coordinate
system for it is correct, you may have to edit it and over ride the one
listed, also make sure you have a coordinate system assigned to you dwg
prior to connecting to it.
The memory limit you speak of in the Raster Extensions Options if for images
when you use the Map Image Insert (MAPIINSERT) only and has no effect on the
data connect image that I'm aware of.

I have overrided the coordinate system to the TN83F because the tif originally showed no coordinate system. This didn't fix it.

If you use the map image insert doest it fall in place?
Where about in TN are you or the image?

When I did Map-Image-Insert, my computer had a "fatal error". I might try it again though. When I did try the Map-Image-Insert, the coordinate insertion points was right at the same coordinates that the "data connect" aerial had. Also, what should the unit for insertion and density be? It was default "inches" but I was thinking it should be feet.

I'm in Johnson City, TN. I overrided the coordinates to TN83F which is what the shape file coordinate system was. The aerial is coming in at 922,199; 225,362. The shape file is coming in correctly around coordinates: 3,034,200; 750,249. When I compare the coordinates to other projects we've done in the vicinity of this project, the coordinates match up to what the shape file coordinates are.

Sounds like the image file coordinate system in not in state plane. You
might want to call them back and what projection they used for the images.
If the images came from TVA then they are not in state plane.
BTW, Do want to join the GIS group for the area? I need more Autodesk users
in there. www.tngic.org

Did you download the raster design object enabler?
