Profiles and Sheet Sets

Hello,
I consistently have a problem with seeing existing grade profiles when plotting via the sheet set manager's dialog box. The file structure is somewhat complicated. I have existing contours from which a surface is created with a shortcut. Another file references the shared surface wherein the alignment from which the profile is pulled exists. That file is xrefed into a final drawing where annotation is placed. All is well until I plot a set with the sheet set manager, either to a plotter, plot files or dwf. Everything shows up, the grid and all proposed grades profiles, except for the existing grade profile. When the individual sheet is plotted to either the plotter, plot file or dwf, the existing grade shows up. Does anyone have any idea why the sheet set manager would be causing this problem?

I dont know what is causing it per say, but I do know sheet set manager seems to do some things with opening files in a temp directory while plotting them. That seems to cause some objects issues(Like diesel strings used a plot stamp showing the temp ditrctory as the drawing path instead of where it is actually stored.) You may have already but you can try turning off the background plot/publish in options. It may help you out.

Have you tried to turning the existing ground profile to static. I had the
same problem when you xref in your profiles to pnp sheet and try to print. I
know turning it to static sounds bad because it loses it's dynamic
capibilites but I have found even if you change the alignement before you
turn the existing ground profile back to dynamic if you change it after the
fact it still picks up the change and updates the groundline automatically.
You just have to remember to set it back to static again for printing
purposes.
Hope this helps.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Turning them static works,
but in a static profile I have not been able to produce linetype
generation (we show existing ground as dashed2). My solution was to
promote the data shortcut in the drawing where the profile views are,
that way you can retain the dynamic profile, and show linetype
generation. We now keep all surfaces needed for the profile local in
profile drawings, referenceing them elsewhere when needed for a volume
or such.

I also use a dashed linetype for the existing grade and the linetype generation for a static profile doesn't work. I wanted to keep the file size down, of which a surface makes up a large portion. Hopefully they have this worked out in 2007.

I'll second that.

You should set your plinegen to 1 in your template so that when you create
your profiles the polyine generation is enabled automatically and your
linetypes should show up.

I'll second that.

We always have set it up that way, and when the profile is dynamic the
linetypes display properly. When the profile is switched to static,
it is not possible to display pline generation, which is the problem.

I agree. Plinegen is always set to "1", with no affect to the static profile.
