Profile style not transferring through XREF

Hi there,

It is a question about xrefing Civil 3D profile style.

The Civil 3D file has a profile view showing 4 profiles, and 4 different profile styles are used for the purpose of comparison. When xrefing this file, the profiles are not shown the way they are defined in the profile style. It seems their appearances are controlled by layer properties. I just wonder if it is possible to transfer profile style through XREF?

Thanks for your help.

Some properties in the profile style may be defined 'ByLayer', so they will take on the layer properties.
If you post a picture it may help to understand what you're saying.

Thank you so much Troma! With your reply I finally figured out what happened...

I created a new layer for the line of the profile, and the color and linetype were "ByLayer". With VISRETAIN=1, when the profile style was changed in the Civil 3D file, those changes were not transferred through XREF.

Thanks!

You really want visretain set correctly or it will always reset the layer colours as defined by the original file. You will lose any changed layer settings so be careful. I switch occasionally reload the ref and switch back.

Funny, that was the first thing I thought of but didn't post because I figured it was probably more than a variable. Lesson here think simply.

Thank you for your advise. I think I really need it...

Yesterday I was asked to make revision to a drawing, which shows the fire hydrant coverage around a building. The blue watermain and water service lines are supposed to be the only focus of attention, and everything else should look gray. I did not make the drawing and did not know a lot about it. What I did was set all layers in the XREF files to color 9, and then changed the color of the layer for watermain to blue. I didn't notice the title block turned gray until I printed it out. The title block is a overlayed XREF, so I changed VISRETAIN to 0 and reloaded the title block. I was in a hurry to get things done because it was almost 5:00PM, then I forgot to change VISRETAIN back. I believe I have to do it the first thing Monday morning.

Thank you very much!
