Profile creation- Surface name

Hi there,

How do I make my profile view to list the proper name of my surfaces, at the moment if I list my surfaces on my profiles they come up with numbers i.e. surface (1), (2) and so on. I would like my profile surface to show with their appropriate names.

Even when I go:
Create profile from surface and I add my surface tot the profile list it becomes Surface (#) instead of the surface name

Using Civil 3D 2009
Windows XP

Thanks,

Guillermo

I don't know the details but you can't have profiles named the same. How are you trying to display the surface name?

In the Toolspace, Settings tab, right click on Profiles & choose Edit
Feature Settings. Expand the Default Name Format tree & set up your naming
convention as you need.

Thanks for the quicks responses,

The issued is not naming the profiles. What I am trying to accomplish is to have the SURFACES cut on the profiles show up with its own names instead of a generic number.

For example if I have OG1 and I cut a profile of it and I listed on my profile it shows as a generic surface name (Surface 1) instead of OG1

Hope this explains it.

Thanks,

Go to the dialog I printed & post that.

I bet where you see

<[Alignment Name]> <[Sampled Surface Name]> <[Next Conter]>

in my dialog shows,

Surface <[Next Counter]>

in your dialog. Change Surface to <[Sampled Surface Name]>. As
Civil3DAnswers said, you will most likely need a counter to prevent
identical names unless you add another field that makes a unique profile
name.

You don't need a counter. If we find a duplicate name a (1) will be added
for you.

I am trying to accomplish the same thing.  When I go through the steps described it changes the default name for when I create a new profile not the naming of the surfaces I am sampling in the profile view.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
