Problem with ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY on one specific computer

Alright, I just started a new job and they loaded my computer with Civil 3D 2006. A surveyor sent us a topo file and I asked one of the techs to open it up and add some items to it. He does and sends it to me.

I open it and the contours come up as ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY (APE). I go to the tech's computer and the contours are AEC_Contours on his computer.

The tech then tells me that the drawing was doing "weird" things initially and came up as the APE for him first...he shut down the drawing and re-opened it and it worked.

Well, I've shut down ACAD several times and I'm still getting the contours as rectangles with the property saying it's an APE.

Am I missing something in Civil 3D that's not allowing me to see it? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Aren't the AEC_Countours LDT objects? Make sure you have the object enablers installed.

I "suppose" to have all LDD incorporated into Civil 3D so I shouldn't need an enabler.

I did go into the "program which made file" and "program to open file" and it appeared that I was able to open all the files excep the building systems files (which I don't need).

Here's another thing. When I went into the file and saw the contours "blocks", it had AeCCivilBase along the left side of the blocks. So I thought that maybe it wasn't loading this file. Then I went to my co-worker's computer and asked him to restart ACAD and it didn't have a AeCCivilBase loaded up either...but he's able to view this file correctly.

Do you have LDT installed on your computer? LDT is not "incorporated" into
Civil 3D. It's a separate application. Even with LDT installed you still
may need the object enabler installed.

Try it, you'll like it.

Is LDT the same as LDD (Land Desktop Design)? I'm not familiar with LDT.

Anthony with Autodesk has a good explanation on where LDT and LDD came from.
