Lets start out by saying this did not happen in any other version of Civil 3d. We recently did a computer upgrade to our office. So when it came time to reload civil 3d, we chose to go with 2012 version. All was fine until I had to reimport an fbk.
I will typically start out by stripping the control loop out of the fbk file and balancing and making a text file of the loop (backup). Then I will bring in the rest of the location on to the balanced loop. If for some reason I need to reimport those locations for some reason it will remove any control points occupied in the last fbk file. Please let me know if something has changed or if the fbk file looks in correct.
Any help is appreciated
yes I am creating network,
I am assuming you have all Updates and Hotfixes installed?

Yes We are currently up todate.
No Still having the same problem. I have a work around, strip all control in to one fbk file and and all sideshots into another fbk file. I need to import the control file into one Survey Network (control) and then import any other fbk file into a different network (sideshots). Seems to be the only way to fix this.
Not a good remedy on large scale jobs that continue to grow.
Seems like a little to involved and should be easier.
I am have the same problem with 2012. You are correct: earlier versions did not do this. Re-importing is now very cumbersome. It has been broken and needs to be fixed by AutoDesk.
The fix That I came uo with is to make a network for every import event, Yes still cumbersom but it does work.
I should be put back the way It was in previous versions!!
Hallelujah! You just made my day.
So now I just need to make a network for importing adjusted control and a second network for fbks and then re-importing behaves like it used to.
Now if I can only remember to do that from now on with out blasting my control the first time and then remembering this post...still should be fixed by Autodesk.
A big advantage of FBK is you can go survey without your final control and just use relative coordinates. Since FBK uses the observation data you don't have to wait or adjust your sideshots in another software to get them on the same datum. It's very usefull when you have large jobs and need to divide the work between multiple crews.
Yes thats what I do! Now if only the field crew could remember the procedures
