Plinegen for Contours? Does nothing...

I have a style set up for existing contours showing them as dashed lines. Only the plinegen that worked in LDD does not seem to work on contours in C3D 07. Any one have any answers other than to change my standard?

Are these existing contours polylines, or are the a civil3D surface? Either way, Ltscale/PSLtscale will effect these also. If you are only looking at this in model space, try viewing the contours thru a viewport in paperspace, set to the particular scale (scale will make a difference if it's a civil3d object).

Anyhow, that's where I'd start.

Don't forget that starting 2008, there is a new setting (I wish it would
have defaulted to on).... setting MSLTSCALE=1 will make AutoCAD scale MS
linetypes by the annotation scale. Even if you are not using the new
annotation scale for ANYTHING else, this is COOL! No more resetting LTS,
set MSLTSCALE=1, LTSCALE=1, and PSLTSCALE=1, with the annotation scale set
to the most common viewport scale.

This is slick! It is SSSOOOO about time!

This is one of the most useful tips I've had in a while. Thanks

I agree great trick but my issue is not with line type scale its line type generation that is giving me trouble. Any one have any way of setting the line type generation on contours. I know it was an issue for me in LDD but the PLINEGEN cleared it up. I am using C3D 07. Haven't yet installed 08 but if 08 clears it up let me know.

I remember having this problem in C3D 2006 and before. I thought 2007
fixed the problem. If not, 2008 definitely fixes the
problem.................. Yes, I just checked my contours in 2007.
PLINEGEN set to 1 seems to work. Simple thought: try setting your
VIEWRES = 2500 then REGEN.

Your surface style doesn't have the Countours set to byblock does it? I've seen that come across on a bunch of styles when bringing them forward from 2007.

Otherwise I have no usefull sugestions. I get nice dashed existing contours.

I have them set as bylayer for color and linetype. I will have to check the viewres and see if that works. I guess I should check another PC in the office to see if its just mine.

If you make your surface from contours you will have this issue with the contour interval that the surface was made from. We had the same issue and if the original contours were 1' we could not get the 1' to go dashed. But if we pulled 0.5' contours these would be dashed. We ended up lowering our surface by 0.001' and the new contours would dash.
