Pipe run depth?

I haven't done any pipe runs except in the tutorials. I'm trying to do a pipe run by Layout. I'm picking the points in the drawing. I have a reference surface created from contours and points. I have a minimum cover set to 3'.
My structures are 72X48 rectangular catch basins with 24X48 grates. Pipe sizes start at 24"RCP and go to 60"RCP.
No matter how I draw the run the CL pipe comes in at the surface elevation ant the Event Viewer give errors, Unable to Apply Macro: ApplyRule.
I haven't found anything in the groups (a couple of postings but no solution) or in the KnowledgeBase.

you do not have any rules set for the pipe network for depth, create a rule for depth or one for both depth and slope. Under setting go to pipes----pipe rule sets. You do not have to recreate the pipe network once done, you can apply the rule to a pipe network that has already been created.

I've been using the Basic Pipe Rule Set modified as shown in the attached image. Do you see anything I need to change?

After you created the pipes, have you set their start and end IE's in their properties?

No. I hadn't. I just tried it and that works. I had gotten the impression form the tutorial that by setting a minimum cover and slope the program would take a shot at assigning inverts. I'm trying to get a first trial I can XML to the Storm Sewers Extension.
After I adjusted the first pipe the rest did not change. Do I need to set the invert elevations for all the pipes in the network?

Yeap, it's painful, but at least you'll be sure everything is double-checked. Another way to do it is changing the IE's in Vista window, but that's practical only if you named your pipes and you know which is which. And the 3rd way to do it is change them in the structure's properties window. You pick the structure that connects the pipes and in the properties,"Connected pipes" tab you can modify the IE's.

The rules should work Allen... When I place
structures my rules are set works. I always get that error when I
try to reapply rules to existing parts.

Yeah, it worked in the tutorial. I think I'll have to take this home a fool with it over the weekend. Maybe do the tutorial again and try recreating the drawing with a stock DWT.

I'll end up doing that anyway since we're trying to model an existing system. But I was expecting the behavior I saw in the tutorial.
Thanks

Sure, in an ideal world, everything should work as advertised. But it's know that the C3D's pipe networks have a lot of bugs. I am using 2010 and still get some errors even thou everything is set properly. I hope they fixed the issues in 2011. Good luck.
