Could you give an example of what you are referring to as "style"? There
are 14 different classifications of structure labels.

Go to Toolspace ->Settings -> Structure -> Label Styles ->
Standard ->(Rt.Click, edit) -> Layout Tab -> Text Contents
Select the Value column of the Contents [ellipsis] , under Properties, there
are the 14 different labels.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Do you want to label the structure type in the name of the structure or as
detailed info about the strucutre?

sorry, What I want to do is label the structure style on the profile view. I have a structure style with a name of " standard box with type 'c' top unit" I would like to set up a label on the profile view to label it this way.

Hope that explains it.

Let's try not to use the word "style" in your particular connotation. Shall
we call it a "Type?".

Bill
Remember, James has probably "copyrighted" -> House of Styles

BTW, Sinclair:
Make a label for each "type" structure you want. Go into the Composer and
write it in.

You will be changing your LABEL STYLE for the structure.

Go to Toolspace -> Settings -> Structure -> Label Styles.
Pick out the style (or copy and re-create a new one.) you want RT Click and
go to the Layout tab.
Select in the Text -contents box and insert your name (type in the name) in
the proper vertical position of the label.

thanks for the help

That's what I orginally had, but I would like the Inlet type 'c' to automatically get filled in the description, if possible.

There are other way but involves some creation and programming.

I'm in a similar boat as you with the drainage structures being defined as standard DOT structure types. (mine are NJDOT) The trouble is that even though you can rename the parts to whatever you want to in the parts catalog, those name don't get used as the default descriptions for the statures when they're used in a drawing. The default description comes from the part size name (PrtSN) and is created by a calculation in the part definition. What I did to overcome this was to edit the part (using partbuilder) and changed the PrtSN from a calculated value to a tabled value. (I also changed the inside width and length to tabled values) Now in the partbuilder you can enter the PrtSN names as text into the table and associate fixed structure widths and lengths.

This idea popped into my head this morning and so far it's been working out ok on my current project.

Well ... it's not working quite as well as I thought. I do get the right default name for the structure description ..... I just get the same one for each structure type ... even though when I add them to the catalog they each get the name specified in the part name table.

This would be so much easier if the structure description came from the catalog name and not from the part.

You can type custom text in the label style. If it is a "Type C," then just type in "Type C" in the label style, and it will be on every label.

True, but I'm looking for a more universal solution as the pipe network creation tool wants you to pick one structure label style when creating a new network. Of course you can change the label style for any given structure after the network is created and as long as the users remember to do that (in both plan and profile) then it's a workable solution. They will also need to remember to do it when swapping parts too.

A nicer solution to all of this would be if we could have a label type specified in the structure style.

Still working on a solution, so far I created a part lets say standard box type 'c' top unit, I added a material category and called it Standard Box. I also added a category for grate and typed Inlet type 'c'. In my label style I use Material and grate so my label looks like this

INLET TYPE 'C' I-1
STANDARD BOX
TOP-
INV-

It works for now

That works for now and is probably as far as customization should be taken for this 'initial' release of the piping capabilities in C3D. The next release may have more features available so too much tweaking at this point could be a waste of time.

I did look into adding more appendable properties for structures and it looks like it could be done. I found two XML files that hold some of the information to make it happen. I'm going to wait for the next release before I go to such lengths just to get a label to work the way I want it to.
