Parcel label questions

Is there a way to label the overall line length of a line that is shared by 2 different parcels instead of having the label stop at each segment?

Version and service pack?

A good question and one that has not been solved (at times, yes, other, no).
You are supposed to use the "[span]" type labels. You can save yourself
some time by drawing a line on top and using the General Label Styles.
Using 2007 only.

Yup. It's called label spanning. You'll find it as an option in the segment label styles. For it to function properly the parcel segment needs to be a single continuous line.

1) Parcel topology is the most important thing in your life at this
point.

2) Yes, using the span label. Providing that:

3) Your parcel topology is good.

See a theme here? It all depends on how that parcel segment was
created....pay attention to Bill's advice - right now, it may be the
quickest way to an easy solution.

There is a topic in the Civil 3D 2007 online help called "Labeling the Overall Length of Parcels" that outlines the process of how to do this.

Flipping the distance label causes the value of the label to change form showing the overall dstance to intermediate distances.

Something I just noticed while working with a spanned label that includes crows feet anchored to the ends of a direction arrow. The direction arrow needs a slight positive Y offset from the segment line or it won't span.

For some insight into why/how span labels work (and don't work) see my post at www.civil3d.com
