Parcel Span Outside Segment Problems

Is there a way to get the Spanning outside segments to work correctly. I
cannot even get the North lot lines to add distances to them when I select
multiple segment in my add lables dialog box.
All I want is the total lot line distance between corners.
I have the 'span outside segments" set to true.
When I flip the label, I still just get the same segment labeled.
It is true that I have probably created these lots from little segments, but
that is a done deal now, and I just want my lot lines labeled from corner to
corner.
Actually, it would also be nice if you could label the lot lines that have
curves, plus line segments together on the frontage, as one distance (corner
to corner).
