Parcel Map Check HTML Report mods

For those of you that have tried to submit lot closure calcs to the local
agency and have been snickered at for using the stock C3D report.....this
one's for you.

I did not like the way these reports looked, at all. Nor does anyone else
around these parts. Maybe the stock reports work just fine in other parts of
the world, but I had to figure out a way to get them more presentable for
us. So far I have only worked on the MapCheck report and I have it to a
point that I think is much more usable. And, it uses far less paper when
printed out than the stock report does. Also, the stock report does not let
you sort the parcels so they are output in the order they were created. I
have added a sort function that allows you to sort by any of the columns in
the Parcel Listbox, thus allowing you to actually have the report in the
order of the Parcel Numbers. Another, smaller, change is that I do not show
the actual parcel Name. I do show the parcel description, but if there is no
description then I use the Parcel Number for the description.

I'm attaching a PNG showing the 2010 stock report on the left, and my
modified report on the right. At this time I have only compiled it for use
with 2009, but will be porting it to 2010 once I'm sure it's working as
desired.

If anyone has any comments, or would like a copy of the revised .NET DLL,
just let me know. Until I get it working correctly with all of the .NET
reports, I will not be posting the source code though.

Hi Jeff:

Add my name to the list of surveyors who wonder when Civil will have _anything_ for them beyond (yet another) learning curve. Here's how it used to look in Land Desktop (almost) out of the box:

Project: 10941-La-Tuna-Cyn-Rd
Parcel Map Check

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parcel name: OUTER CL TRAVERSE

North: 7080.5420 East : 5179.5834

Line Course: S 70-41-28 E Length: 409.59
North: 6144.3175 East : 4656.4574
... ...
Line Course: N 07-13-38 W Length: 1115.64
North: 7080.5418 East : 5179.5877

Perimeter: 3424.66 Area: 581,492 sq.ft. 13.35 acres

Mapcheck Closure - (Uses listed courses, radii, and deltas)
Error Closure: 0.0043 Course: S 86-48-13 E
Error North: -0.00024 East : 0.00430
Precision 1: 796,432.56

This wasn't perfect, IMO, but it's LIGHT YEARS ahead of the current default state of Civil's output. I'm less concerned about the order of parcels or the ability to sort them than I am about the formatting, which you've improved a lot.

I gave up on Civil and returned to LDD for these lotcheck calcs, after spending a couple of hours in Civil Toolspace/Settings trying to output lotchecks to two decimal places instead of three for distances and 4 instead of 6 for bearings... (sigh). Nothing I changed in Settings seemed to have any effect on the output.

Still being a compleat Civil newbie, I'm willing to take the blame for not being trained. How _do_ folks get reports formatted (outside of reprogramming the DLL)?

Regards,
Randy

That didn't format as I intended --- here's an attached PDF image of the LDD lot closure calc formatting:

Does this mean you'd like to get my revised report?
Smile emoticon I must say, I was rather surprised by the
lack of responses I got to this. Just you in this thread and one other by email.
If you want it, I'll email it direct...just give me an email
address.

Yeah, I used LDD for years, and I didn't like it's
reports either. Although they are far better than C3D's as you
said.

The precision for the .NET reports is governed by
the drawing's Ambient settings. The XML reports seem to vary between the LandXML
Report settings, drawing settings, and even have a mind of their own at
times.

I started using the closures you get by right clicking the site in the prospector.

It looks quite a bit better to me.

Jeff -

2010 has the ability to export the Map Check as a text file, but I would
be interested in seeing the report.

Jeff,

I'd appreciate a copy as well. I just worked on my first project with C3D and was disappointed with their reports. Thank you.

Hi Jeff,

I, too, have been wanting to modify the stock report. What is the file that needs to be modified?

I'm in C3D 2011.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

The VB.NET solution for the .NET reports is located here:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2011\enu\Data\Reports\Net\Source

The ParcelMapCheck code is in:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2011\enu\Data\Reports\Net\Source\C3DReports\Parcel

It's been long enough ago that I don't recall exactly what I edited, or what it was edited to. Due to the overall lack of construction around here, I haven't needed to update my report code since C3D2010.... I'll see if I can find the older code I updated tonight. It should still be on my old laptop.

I'd be interested.

Suggestion: keep the segment number at the beginning of each line, that is actually helpfull if you are checking closures for one large parcel/easement.

I really like how you have everything in one line. Are all the excess lines/returns taken out of the resultant saved text file as well? I always have to delete those in order to not kill a tree when I submit.

Ian & Paul (and anyone else interested),

Attached is a zip file with new report and associated resource DLL's for C3D versions 2010 - 2012. They all have been renamed so as not to conflict with the existing reports. First, unblock the ZIP file when you download it (right-click the file you save, properties, near the bottom of the first tab should be an Unblock button). Then save the 2 dll's for your version located in the zip to the same folder as the existing report dll's...for 2011 it is here: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2011\enu\Data\Reports\Net

Then in C3D edit the target for the Parcel Map Check Report in reports manager to point to the C3DReports_JMM.dll

Ian, in this version I added an option to include the Segment Number or not.

Paul, the report uses the Drawing's Ambient Setting for Angles (or it should be, as I didn't change this from the stock report).

Jeff,

I have been following your input for a while and am intrested in a solution to the very enviromentally brown report output from the standard MapCheck report.  It is sad that we as users of the surveying functions cannot convince Autodesk they need to step back to Civil 2004 and recreate or emulate the MapCheck report from that version.  I had pretty much given up on finding a solution and was pleasently supprised when you offered your efforts to all, it is commendable that you are sharing your efforts and it is much appreciated.

I tried your DLL's, they do not seem to want to execute in either C3D 2010 or 2012.  The first time they are tried a failure to execute error screen appears, after that the programs defaults back to the prepackaged DLL.  Not sure what is goin on but it is interesting that your routines are about 1/10 the size of the original Autodesk versions, could there be an error in the ZIP file?  Of course there is always the possibility of operator error........

Thanks for the kind words, Rich. As to why it's not working for you....first, did you make sure to unblock the ZIP file after downloading it?

Unblock Zip file.png

If that is not the issue, are you saving the dll to a network drive? If so, you must move it to a local drive as .NET doesn't like things being run from a remote location (this is a MS security issue, not Autodesk).

Also, looks like I messed up the instructions I posted a few weeks ago:

"Then in C3D edit the target for the Parcel Map Check Report in reports manager to point to the C3DReports_JMM.dll" should read:

"Then in C3D edit the target for the Parcel Map Check Report in reports manager to point to the C3DReports_2012.dll (or whichever version you are using)"

My DLL's are smaller because I don't include code for all of the other reports.

Jeff,

Thank you for the reply, tried the Unblock to no avail.  Looks like I may have some network security issues that I will have our IT person look at.

Thanks for your help.
