Opening template gets 2 dwgs

When I open my template I get 2 drawings, can this be fixed?

How are you opening your template?  Double clicking on the template file through windows explorer?  By default, Civil 3D starts with Drawing1 open (that 1 drawing), then when you start another with a template, that the second drawing.

The answer to your question is you change your startup parameter to use a different UI.

Checkout the STARTUP variable.

I have a shortcut on my desktop.  How do I edit my startup variable?

From the Express Tools panel, there's a tool for System Variables.  This is where the explanation is listed for the different values.  To change the value, you can do it here, or just type STARTUP on the command line.

You might also take a look at the help file for STARTUP SWITCHES, or customizing startup. I don't know which version you're using, so I can't paste a default path here.

The target in my shortcut doesn't reference a drawing that automatically starts, I have my STARTUP variable set to 0, so drawing 1 is automatically created based on my QNEW variable for the default template.

Thanks, changing the setting from 0 to 2 fixed it.
