Opening a 2012 drawing in 2010

I have been sent a drawing that was created in 2012 but it is supposed to be saved as a 2010 version.  I only have 2010 Civil 3D on my computer.  When I open the drawing in 2010 everything comes in as an object.  Therefore the surfaces and points are not useable.  Am I doing something wrong when i open the drawing or is the person saving the drawing as a 2010 version possibly doing something wrong?

Civil3D 2012 Objects can't be "SAVED" back to 2010 (the objects aren't backwards compatible). You can get some of the data by getting the person to do a XML export then you can do an XML import.
