No Way to Label Station and Offsets in Profile View? Really?

So I'm finally getting around to trying to make a profile label style so I don't have to do these dudes manually anymore, and....

Am I correct in thinking that you cannot add alignment offsets to a profile label? I can get it to give me stationing , but not offsets? Isn't that like something, um, that EVERYONE does?

(if there IS a way to do it, please feel free to call me a dumb a** and tell me how to do it. It will sting a little, but I'll learn something)

Pictures (preferably PNG's) really help in cases like this.....i.e. what are
you labeling, how do you want it to look?

ok, here's a pic of what my manual labels look like.

ok, that's what I thought....pipes.

If you use Structure labels (you'd have to create a pipe network) they have
Station/Offset components.

Just add a profile view label that has a component of "Reference Text". When you pick this, you have the option of selecting an alignment and offest.

Go to Settings tab in toolspace, find the Profile View/Label Styles, Station Elevation/xxx and create one or modify one. Just add component to style and modifly to your liking on anchor point, rotation, and what you want the info to say.

It is a pipe network. Can structure labels be applied to a profile in the manner shown? I must go investigate......

I haven't tried yet, and I am thinking outloud -

but could you not set a point at that location in plan, call it TEE and
project it to the profile and have the projection label the station offset?

Thanks, beacivil and Jeff,

I will try your suggestions! You didn't even call me a dumb a**. No wonder they call you Civil engineers. :~0

Why create a point when he likely has a block already inserted at that point
which can be projected and labelled?

Just thinking end use....construction layout. If I can save a step for
my fieldcrews, I will.

Either way, yes, a block, AutoCAD or Civil 3d point, solid, 3dpoly /
figure etc can be projected onto the profile view and labeled with
station and offset from plan.

The standard OOTB structure labels have fields for station & offset of profile, or they can be easily added.

2009 added separate profile label styles that let them be labeled vertical below structure similar to LDD/Civil.

I just change the description field to TEE or TYPE whatever inlet to get it to label on both.

Each pipe network is set for one alignment for station & offset values. Each individual structure can be over ridden to reference different alignments if needed. 1 alignment / structure.

Getting the labels along the band as shown, follow the other posts, they are better for that.

My opinion is that ultimately the best way to do this is to have a structure for a TEE (and every other part that you would use regularly in a pipe network), and apply a structure label to it just like a manhole, inlet, etc. Any changes in the part horizontally or vertically would dynamically update the label.

Hi Tom,

The Civil 3D newsgroup is wonderfully civil. There is no culture here
of abuse and may it never happen.

We all recognise that Civil 3D is a bit like Isaac Newton's beach, with
most of us knowing a few grains of sand and being grateful to get help
from someone with knowledge of some of the other grains of sand.

If you ask a sensible question here you are sure to get sensible answers.

Nah, to call someone here something like that would indicate that I think of myself as a know-it-all. I'm hardly a certified trainer and am almost a certified user,a senior cad technician, and an I.T. dude, but never a know-it-all

Ask away any questions you have, man. More than one will try to help.

Good point Laurie. Other groups on the other hand, people with initials of
TT especially, are another story. 🙂
