Layout Profile

I am trying to lay out a profile with verticel curve. When I go to the
Profile Layout tools, I set the length of curve and then select Draw
Tangents with Curves. When I draw my profile in, it isn't drawing the
curves in. I have gone to Edit Profile and selected Panarama. When I go
there to edit the profile, the Grade Change is grayed out and I am unable to
edit the Legth of Curves.

I have restatred the drawing from scratch and stilll have the same problem.
I have gone into one of the tutorals and tried in a drawing taht already has
a Layout Profile in it. Whne I try to edit that profile in Panarama, it
works OK, but if I creat a new Profile, in that drawing, I have the same
provblem.

I am new to Civil 3D so I'm sure I have something misset and am missing it
out of ignorance.

I am using Civil 3D 2005 SP 1.

Tahnk for any help any one can give me.

Go back to your Curve Settings on the Profile layout toolbar, you probably have it set to Circular curve. Set this to Parabolic Curve which allows you to set the horizontal length of the vertical curve or it's K-value. When this is set to Circular, it appears the curve is not there because it is probably really small in length.

Gene,

First thing to check is if your OSNAP settings are on. If they are and
the profile layout tool is snapping to a point that's less than the
length of the parabolic curve that you set up, then there's no solution
for that, and you will get tangents without curves.

Even if your OSNAP isn't on, the length you have set must be
met/exceeded for the curve to be drawn in. You can test this by going
out a distance longer than the length and making sure that that you can,
in fact, see the curve being drawn.

When you went to Panorama, did you see that a curve has been created?
Look in the column entitled "Sub-Entity Type" and you will see
"Symmetric Parabola" where a curve segment was added. If it's empty,
then no curve was able to be fitted there.

The Grade Change column is read-only; you cannot edit values in that column.

Is it possible that you could upgrade to Civil 3D 2006 SP1 instead of
staying on 2005? There are so many enhancements and fixes that you
would really benefit from using the current version.
