Layer Filters

Anyone notice that the import / export Layer filters is missing in 2009?

Yeah - 'pretty bogus! We definitely used this a lot in 2008 when bringing
over layer standards...

From support:

"There is a command called CLASSICLAYER. This command should bring you the older Layer Manager with all of the commands. However, to get this to work correctly, we need to modify the Registry slightly. To add the required Windows Registry:
1. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, enter regedit. Click OK.
3. Find the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-7000:409\Applications\AcLayer\Extensions
4. Double-click the ADT String Value.
5. In the Edit String dialog box, in the Value Data text box, enter AecLayerManagerEx.dll and click OK.
The next time you launch Civil 3D, type CLASSICLAYER. You should now get a new dialog box that has the correct commands. Keep in mind that the “old” civil layer manager will still function as before. You can modify the CUI to add a button or change the Layer Toolbar to launch this Classic Layer Manager instead, although it will not be dockable."

i miss saving and restoring layer filters too, but i have vista 64-bit and don't have that specific key. i found a similar one in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-7000:409\Applications\AcLayer\Extensions\ADT.

while searching for this key, i found keys for ADT under R16.x and R17.1, and they already had AecLayerManagerEx.dll as the value, but ADT under R17.2 was blank.

i'm jumping the gun because i've edited this key and haven't tried it out yet! i was too excited in having found one! i'll have to get back to say if it worked or not.

Its a bummer that you need to find it in CLASSICLAYER but its a once a drawing thing and both layer managers can be open at teh same time.

the load and save layer filter buttons disappeared so i had to enter the ADT string value again. could installing a service pack have reverted the string back to blank? anyway, all it took was to put AecLayerManagerEx.dll back and voila!

I would assume that the Update probably reverts the registry back.

with the latest acad c3d upgrade, i had to enter this key again on my vista 64-bit system. this time, however, there were 2 paths in the registry to ADT, one under the aforementioned ACAD-7000:409, and one i dont recall seeing before, 7018:409:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-7018:409\Applications\AcLayer\Extensions\ADT

this one, however, had a value: AcLayer.dll. i went ahead and changed this one too, to AecLayerManagerEx.dll, and i haven't had any errors, the load and save buttons are still missing from the regular layer command but are restored to classiclayer and all's right with the world!.

Are you looking to Export / Import Layer Filters?

Save them with LAYERSAVEFILTERTREE and load them using LAYERLOADFILTERTREE.

C3D 2018.1
C3D 2016 SP4

Win 7 Professional 64 Bit
