LDDT Utilities in Civil 3d 2010 - Replace Blocks

Any help would be greatly appreciate . . . I want to replace some, but not all instances of a specific block in my drawing.

I used to use LD - Utilities - Blocks - Replace Block. This was handy in that I could pick and choose certain instances of a block and just replace those . . .

. . . this is (and always has been) different from the Express menu's Replace block with another block - that has always replaced all blocks of a certain name with another chosen block. I can't redfine the block either - same problem - all are then updated.

Is there a new way to do this? Or am I going to have to take it back to 2006 Land Desktop to get this feature?

This is just one of the many Land Destop "Utilities" that I miss in 2010.

Thanks for any ideas on this.

CUT the blocks you want to swap (and the replacement) and paste to a blank
drawing. Do the block replace. Copy and paste back to the original file.

Crude, but effective. I keep forgeting to go back to the old basics. I'll learn to beat this software one way or another. Thank goodness I still remember keyboard commands . . .

thanks for the quick fix!

What are some of the "many Land Desktop utilities" that you miss?

I've been using C3D for a few years now, and I can only think of a few features from Land Desktop that I miss.

Now, we've pretty much completely changed many of our office processes, and practically nothing is done in the same way as we used to with Land Desktop. It took a while to get all those new procedures developed an in-place. But now, we generally find C3D works much better, on average.

Sinc,

Great question. As the keeper of the wish list for Civil 3D I would love to hear about the "many Land Desktop utilities" that you miss.

Mr. Steltman please don't read this...

Daylight Polyline.

That's my 'many' at least for now.

;)

But can you not do that with the feature line (from polyline) and grading object ?

Yes, but occasionally the grading just refuses to do it. The simple nature
of the daylight polyline routine makes it nearly foolproof, though not as
accurate.

Agreed Matt.

It's the same process you would use with a grading object without having to
create a grading object and then exploding it.

I should add that Robert Steltman's software (www.RSteltman.com) does this very well in C3D with Feature lines, 2 & 3d polys, etc.
