Is there a way to add "Change Text Case" command back to ribbon?

Hey everyone,

I am using Civil 3D 2013 and noticed the command to change all lower case text to upper moved from the ribbon (Civil 3D 2011) to under the Express menu.  It was much more convenient when it was under the "text editor" contextual ribbon menu...is there a way to put it back on there? Maybe through the CUI?

Thanks in advance,

Stu

Double click on your Text or Mtext to get into edit mode.

Right-click.

Change Case should be there.

I use that tool enough to just use the command line (TCASE) vs. looking for a menu or a ribbon tool.

Randal,

That works for individual MTEXT. I believe we want to change text on selection sets.

Ok, that makes sense.

But "Tcase" is and has always been an express tool, so how could it have been in the regular "acad.cuix" Ribbon in 2011, unless the user put it there?

It's not TCase. This is my C3D2012 OOTB MText contextual ribbon panel when I have selected an Mtext object to edit and highlighted text within it:

In 2013 the 2 icons for the Lower to Upper * Upper to Lower are not there and the Background mask is shifted to the left.

Neil, I don't get a Context Ribbon tab when selecting multiple Mtext objects.

Agreed.

That is the same as the right-click context menu that I posted earlier, for changing text within a single mtext object.

But Neil brought up that the OP might be wanting to change the case of multiple text/mtext objects - which is what Tcase does.

So if the OP was talking about the icons in your screenshot, he/she can use the right-click, and/or edit the CUI and put them back in (why does adsk keep messing with things like this???? who knows..??)

If the OP was talking about "tcase", then it must have been a custom CUI edit anyway in his 2011.

That's a question we ask with every release, no? I think they have a specialized team of "how can we mess with the end users minds this time" gurus.

As for editing that contextual tab, I think it is one that is hard coded and isn't in the CUI (I hope I'm wrong on that).

Frankly I don't care for the Ribbon enough to spend time tweaking it. I set up my own workspace with the Ribbon minimized and toolbars that have all my favorite tools. That way I can always find what I need without having to go hunting. Of course I do need the Ribbon for some things but I find this approach is most efficient for me.

One more...

Select all the text in the editor and hit SHIFT+CTL+U for uppercase and SHIFT+CTL+L for lowercase.

I am the OP (insert calculating laugh here)...thanks for all the responses I like the "Tcase" and keyboard shortcut solutions...better than trying to nav through the express menu.  Ya those two contextual menu buttons were the ones I was referring to...they were just convenient when you forgot to uppercase your text.  AutoCAPS function is kinda of nice too...takes the remembering/forgetting variable out of the equation. 🙂

Thanks again for the tips though,

Stu

P.S. I tried looking through CUI to add back in but couldn't figure left from right in there! Oh well, no biggie.

Works fine for me

You just need to know how to add it to your ribbon. How did I do it? Well, watch THIS VIDEO and it will show you the steps.

That's not the same thing though. You can't use that to change the case of part of the text. The one that I show is the one that is a part of AutoCAD and allows you to change case on a couple words or perhaps a paragraph or a larger piece of text.

Hi Brian
But the OP ask about all lower to upper. Isn't that what it does?

Perhaps an alternate solution for the OP would be to turn the toolbar back on.

No, he asked about the one in the Context Sensitive Ribbon Panel which only displays when you have a portion of text selected....
