Importing points/lines from a RW5 file in Civil 3D 2011

Hello,

Is there any option in civil 3D 2011 to import point/line data from a RW5 file?

Thanks

Rajesh

Use the Survey Data Collection Link (click the dropdown arrow next to Create ground Data on the Home Tab). You can convert your RW5 into an FBK file which can be imported into a survey database

Also, if the line work was coded in the description, you could just export an ascii file. If I remember my releases correctly 11 could do line work coding in the description.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried to convert the RW5 file to FBK format using Survey Link DC 7.5.5, but it shows bad raw data line error.

Why it is showing this error?

I am not able to attach a RW5 here, so i am saving the file as a txt file and attachihg the same here.

Thanks

Rajesh

There are some issues with your file. In line 21, there is a setup on point 1.001, which is established in line 18, backsighting point 0, which doesn't exist.

Thanks KirkNoonan for your reply.

When I convert this file, Survey link message says
"Bad raw data line at line 20. Unable to continue.
Line:LS,HI1.630"

So, error comes before line 21 is processed by the program.

If you set a rod height along with the instrument height in line 20, that error will go away.

Thanks again!
I tried by replacing 20th line as

LS,HI1.630,HR1.630

Now Survey Link error message shows:

Bad raw data line at line 21. Unable to continue.
Line:BK,OP1001,BP

The error jumps to next line and the 21st line is correct as per the format shown on the document 😞

the format is correct, but you are back sighting a point that does not exist

Personally I have always found it easier to add an addition NEZ Point after the first one, with the PNEZD of the backsight from the data collector or job file and just note out or delete the backsitght shot. You can however backsight an azmiuth to resolve this issue as well.

can you please give me an sample format of this backsight entry in a rw5 file

Message 12 of 13

Here is an example. Note that several control points are established prior to the first setup. The first setup on a pre-established point is on line 16 with the instrument and rod heights established on line 17 and then the backsight to one of the pre-established points on line 18.

line 16 - OC,OP5090,N 1249050.09000,E 787717.45000,EL26.160,--TRAV
line 17 - LS,HI5.2300,HR5.0800
line 18 - BK,OP5090,BP5000,BS11.2720,BC0.0000
