Importing FEMA LIDAR .las files into Civil 3D

Does anyone know how to import LIDAR .las files into Civil 3D?  I have tried bringing the files in as points (followed some directions online) but that didn't work.  Data is from FEMA.  Any suggestions?

We need more information to answer this question.  Do you want to create a surface or a point cloud?  What version of C3d are you using?

I would like to create a surface.  Using Civil 3D 2012.

I found these links by searching Google.  It looks like you create a point cloud first, then add that data to a surface.
