Importing AutoCAD.dwg file?

Okay, there is a good possibility that I am over looking something...but is there not a way to import an AutoCAD *.dwg file into Civil 3D?

Basically, I have set up a template with the required blocks and other information; I want to keep that information loaded and available no matter which drawing I open. I realize that I can just open a .dwg in Civil; but I do not want to lose or have to reload my blocks, etc. everytime I work on a customer drawing.

Are you even able to import a .dwg into a Civil template?

Try inserting your template drawing with your blocks and such into the correct civil 3d .dwt template file, saving and closing.

The template is fine; I just want to import a customer drawing into the 'template'.

Try:

1. Open blank drawing from your civil 3d template with blocks, styles, settings, etc.

2. Insert customer drawing

3. Save and close file.

Let me know if this works.

To add a little more, After you insert the customers dwg with the insert command, explode it once so its not a block.

Save the template file with a new name, I.E. Customer1.dwt. and place it in the same folder as your other dwts.

And don't forget to purge the block after exploding. You don't want to bloat the file unnecessarily.
