Import points from a file

In Civil 3d 2010 I got an error saying "Error parsing value line 1 ect and invalid characters.

I'm importing a point.xyz file using PNEZD (space delimited). The file seems to look ok.

Can you post a part of the point file? You say it's an XYZ file, which typically doesn't have point numbers (the P in PNEZD) or descriptions (the D) - if it's truly a easting, northing, elevation file (XYZ) then you'll need to change to that format to get it to import - if it's looking for a component that's not in the file format, then it won't work.

I guess you should open your point list in Notepad, and erase the first line probably containing the field names...

It would be useful if C3D could read files which still had header information in the first line e.g. if the first line didn't fit the template for PENZD or ENZ or whatever, then just ignore the line and process the next one

You can ignore commented lines in the point file format - and the new point file import dialog parses the file for you for a visual confirmation of the format.

I would be glad to take a look if you will paste a few lines of your file.

Deleting first line seems to work Thanks to everyone

Thanks for this - never really noticed that option before so I just put a # in front of the No. in my point file and the line was ignoredSmiley Happy
