Identifying areas of widening

I'm working on a windfarm access road (5m wide with widening at bends to 8m) and I need to identify the areas of widening.

I've got the centreline alignment and created the 2.5m offsets to each side. I have also created widenings on the insides of the bends using the widening tools and used a linear taper at entry and exit. I now need to hatch up the portions where the road has been widened to demonstrate compliance with the specification and the only easy way I can see is to export to autocad and use the hatch tools (not tried to hatch between alignments).

Whilst this works it isn't dynamic so if the alignment is adjusted the widening alignments are also moved but the hatching remains.

is there an easier way to do this?

although as I don't have this modelled as a corridor I don't think this is the way forward.

I also can't see how this could be achieved even if I did have a corridow

Yes, this is definitely the way to go. It is super easy... and dynamic per your request.

I can't see how the widening portion would be identified?

XML of alignments - screenshot (done via hatching in ACAD drawing) shows what I want to show dynamically

The XML didn't preserve the C3D smart Offset relationships with the CL alignment.

I just quickly created a CL with constant 12' wide paved lanes either side of CL, then did some exaggerated Widenings (magenta hatch) for demonstration purposes.

This is all dynamically reponsive to changes in the Parent Alignment.

I use the process that Joe linked to all the time to show the difference between existing & proposed for our corridors. We often have alignment modifications, our existing uses a different code for the pavement link than the proposed, same result.

Thanks to Lisa and fcernst for the replies - these methods rely on having a corridor modelled i.e. assembly, profile and horizontal alignment do they not?

I only have a horizontal alignment...

If you only have alignments, add another set of widenings that to the normal road width and then hatch between those and the ones with the widenings. You might need to turn off the labels before you do that. If you use this or the corridor method you should end up with widenings and hatches that respond to changes in the design.

I only have a horizontal alignment..

That's fine. That's all I started with...

Hint for homework: I did not have to use any surfaces, neither for a Profile or Targets...

I concur with Fred. You do not have to model the corridor to utilize the code set abilty to hatch

Peter,

I just tested your suggestion and the Hatch disappeared when I moved the Parent Alignment.

Is that a defect?

This is not stable. Now it is staying in the Drawing, but losing its Associativity.

This doesn't seem to work - I created two more offset alignments with the standard offset and hatched the relevant areas. I then dragged a parent alignment about 5 minutes ago, the alignments moved but the hatch remained and C3D has gone into "....Not Responding..." mode

The corridor is easy and does not have to model and is dynamic.

rename the file with dwg extension; the dg wouldn't let me post a drawing for some reason
