Help (F1) file problem

Everytime I try to access the Civil 3D or Map 3D Help (F1) file my computer runs an installer and prompts me saying "Please wait while Windows configures Autodesk Civil 3D (or Map 3D)" and then pops up another dialog saying the acad.exe is running and says "In order to complete installation, these programs must be closed.". I even tried disabling the Windows Install service, but that didn't work.

So the end result is I can not access HELP. Please HELP!!

Bad luck. What happens when you type Help at the command line? Nothing?

Thanks for responding alkabong.

The same thing happens. To elaborate a little more, after executing Help it launches the Help screen and I can see:
+ Autodesk Civil 3D Help
+ Autodesk Map 3D Help
+ AutoCAD Help
? Copyrights and Trademarks

Then, my installation problem I mentioned before. If I click Cancel it will bring to the Help file. But if I click on any of the links in the Help file it re-runs the installation problem again.

Todd - What version? This same thing happened to me when I was running
the beta versions of Civil 3D 2007. Here's what to do - when the
installer pops up, just cancel out of it. If I remember correctly,
this worked for me.

For what it's worth, it's not doing that to me with the shipping version
of C3D.

Hi Jason.

Sorry I forgot to include that information. I am using the 2007 version of Map 3D, Civil 3D, Land Desktop, Civil Design, Survey and Raster Design. I also had the beta installed, but I remove it and did a clean uninstall before installing the shipped version (deleted all Autodesk references in both Windows Explorer and my Registry).

For what it's worth, I had a bear of a time uninstalling the last beta
of Civil 3D, even doing a clean uninstall. Perhaps there is still
something there still being referenced.

Did you ever get this resolved?
I am having the same problem on Civil 3D 2007 & Map 3D 2007.

good morning- yes I've seen this, and unfortunately I cant remote to my work station, so I'm going by memory. Our resolution was to clear out of any particular cad app (LDT, Map, C3D) and use windows explorer to find the *.chm files (help files) for all the installed app. There should be an acad.chm, a Civil.chm, etc. If you open those directly, and close them, the next time you open cad proper, it should be able to access the help with no malfunctions.
If I got this all wrong by not having my notes, please respond and I will re-do from work...

Don't worry about it. The last repair fixed it, after 6 tries. Apparently when you use the repair from "Click here for support information" if different than the repair option when you click on the "Change" button.
Anyway, all is good
Thanks

I am having this same problem and I cannot fix it. I tried going your suggestion of opening the Civil.chm from Windows explorer and letting it run through the install. Unfortunately, this did not do the trick. The strange thing is that I'm getting the install message for Land Desktop 2007, not Civil 3D, even though I'm opening the help from Civil 3D. Also, I was getting this problem in Land Desktop when I opened that help, but once I ran through the installer once, it went away. Any other suggestions??
