Grading

I have this problem with EG covering over the cut area.

The feature line is partially under the surface making a cut.

It should be a hole where EG and the slopes meet as the image shows!

When I make an infill for the fill area it makes the the bottom of the cut area but the surface stays as a top!

It is very clear in Object viewer!

are you saying that the existing surface is still there after you create a grading?  or is the grading conforming to the existing surface grade and not to the cut you thought you had performed?

can you post a drawing file?

Hi!

The feature line is under the surface so it should make a cut up to and throw the surface.

Where the slopes and the surface meet it should make a boundary inside of which the surface "hides".

I have been searching this forum and others and have not found anything like this!

But I do not understand your question!

a feature line only makes a cut in a surface if you add it to the surface definition.   Are you adding the feature line to the existing surface as a breakline?  If not then are you creating a grading using a feature line?

I too am trying to understand your original question.

some screen shots or an actual drawing file would help greatly.

I am guessing that you

1. Have an existing ground surface
2. Have a feature line partly below and partly above the exisitng ground
3. Are creating a grading from the feature line to the surface.

If so, the grading will

1. Be partly cut and partly fill
2. Be partly below the existing ground and partly above
3. Not delete or replace any of the existing ground.

If you want to have a surface that shows the final result of existing ground and the grading combined

1. Create a new surface
2. Paste the existing ground into the new surface
3. Paste the grading surface into the new surface.

Providing the EG surface originated from a different dwg file and is not built and defined in the grading dwg flle.

The EG surface is a separate object than the Grading and Grading surface. If you want a hole in the EG surface you need to make it.

Turn the border on in the FG surface style and extract it.

Use the resulting 3d poly as a mask for the EG.

If you have multiple hole to create then make a new surface, paste EG in. Use the plines to define hidden borders on the EG.

Yes!

I was thinking about "mask" too!

It should be the only solution!

But it does not effect volume for cut or fill I hope!

The feature line for grading should work as mask too!

Feature line for the grading is the only one created by me but Qselect suggets there are two!

EG and grading are not originated from diffrent files!

I can not make the EG disappear above the cut part!

makeing a new surface doesn't automatically affect the original surface.   the grading daylighted perfectly as it was designed to.   In order to show the combined surface what is needed is a 3rd surface.   then paste in order the existing surface and then the proposed surface.   I have done this and resaved your drawing to 2013.   sorry there is no way to save it back to 2012 so that you can see what i've done.   But hopefully when you upgrade to 2013 you will be able to see it.
